GOOD NEWS

The Rotary Club of Burnside are proud to announce a $6000 contribution to TANZEED; a South Australian organisation working to empower Tanzanian children through education.

With our funding, co-founders, Adam and Karen Burford will be able to complete the school and obtain registration by the Tanzanian Government; a feet no others have previously achieved.

Namelok School (meaning “sweet little school” in Maasai) is located in a remote community called Kiserian in northern Tanzania. Kiserian is a proud Maasai community but they have many challenges. There is no running water, electricity, established road or health services. The nearest Government school is over 12km away and takes children approximately 3 hours for children to walk each way. Namelok School enables children to access an education in their community.

We are excited and looking forward to seeing the progress of these children as they move through their education.

WHERE OUR FUNDRAISING GOES

The Rotary Club of Burnside is involved in many projects in the areas of youth, our community, environment & health locally and internationally.

In the 18/19 Rotary Year our club raised over $28,000 to put towards these projects and causes.  Here's a few highlights.

As always, supporting our local youth in their educational, sporting and leadership development was a key focus.  With support for students to attend the National Youth Science Forum and test themselves by sailing on the One & All as part of the Rotary Youth Sailing programme we saw some incredible results.

Locally, the Rotary Club of Burnside continued to hold the Seniors Christmas lunch at the Burnside Town Hall.  This event attracts over 120 local seniors for a 2 course lunch and drinks.  This year, the attendees were treated to fantastic entertainment from the Burnside Primary School choir.

Rotary International is involved in a number of projects which our Club support.

ROMAC (Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children) aims to provide children of our neighbouring countries specialist medical care for those at risk of severe deterioration or even death.  Here in South Australia, two children from the Solomon Islands were supported in life-saving heart surgery this year.

The Rotary Foundation continues its fantastic work across the globe with the "End Polio" focus being top priority.  With only a handful of recorded polio sufferers noted, and generous backing from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, this major project is making a concerted effort to knock this dreaded disease out.  The Rotary Club of Burnside provides a significant contribution to the Foundation each year.
